Lindsay Rugby was represented in University Rugby in 2011

Scott Beukeboom, of Lindsay, captained the Guelph Gryphons to a 3rd place finishLindsay and the Lindsay Rugby Football Club were well represented in University rugby in 2011. On November 13, 2011, the University of Western Ontario Mustangs defeated Queens University in the Ontario University Men's Rugby Final. Pictured in photo above from left to right: Lucas Hoppe, Seb Pearson, Spencer Barrett, Keegan Selby, Matt Barrett and Bruce Barrett (coach). Seb Pearson was also named the OUA Rookie of the Year and Spencer Barrett was named to the OUA All Star team.

Ontario Blues won the Canadian Rugby Championship

The Ontario Blues senior men’s rugby team captured the Canadian Rugby Championship by defeating the Prairie Wolf Pack by a score of 15 to 0 in Burlington, Ontario, on August 27, 2011. Lindsay was well represented in the game, (l to r) Brett Beukeboom, Seb Pearson, Chris Silverthorn (coach), Rob Brouwer, Doug Wooldridge and Sherry Trumbull (referee).

Glen Tarver, the director of Jr. Development for Rugby Ontario commented on Lindsay's contribution to rugby and said, "We at the Ontario Rugby Union consider Lindsay Ontario a rugby factory based on the numbers of quality players they turn out." The Lindsay Rugby Club has an important influence on the development of our local youth. History has shown that players from the club develop personal qualities such as leadership, self confidence and respect. The teams have produced many national and world players. After having memorable experiences within the club, players have returned to pay - it – forward, by coaching and holding executive positions within the club. The Lindsay Rugby Club, since its inception has influenced many strong individuals, all with positive qualities that are carried over into their everyday lives. read more >>

Lindsay U17 player represents Canada‏

In early December, the Canada U17's Junior Men's Rugby selection camps wrapped up and the task of selecting the two squads was completed. Two Lindsay Football Rugby Club players made the final selection, with Bobby Grant being selected for the Christmas tour to Santa Barbara, California, and Sam Evans being selected for the tour of British Columbia being held in February. From those two events a final squad of 26 players will be selected to represent Canada at the Wellington Festival in the U.K., over the Easter holidays, in 2011.

With this round of Cup competition coming to an end across Europe, we were able to catch up with a young Canadian back-row, whose club has been making strides in the R.F.U.'s National Division One. We spoke to Seb Pearson, just following last weekend, and was able to tell us some of what he has been up to on and off the frozen pitch this season.

September 7, 2010 - Local rugby players selected ti try out for National U17 team

Bobby Grant and Sam EvansBarbara-Ann MacEachern (LINDSAY) Two local rugby players have been selected to try-out for the national U17 team following a successful bid for provincial gold in Calgary Aug. 17. Bobby Grant of Lindsay and Sam Evans of Reaboro, both 16, played four games against Alberta and B.C. teams at the tournament, with Ontario's team coming out on top against B.C. in the final 29-26. "Our team really had a lot of heart ... we just didn't give up," said Mr. Evans of representing Ontario. He added that he was happy with his own effort at the tournament and his tackling while playing the prop position.

Mr. Grant, who plays the centre and kicker positions, made an impressive showing, earning 14 points and making the game-winning kick in Ontario's first game against B.C. "I was making basically all my tackles," he said, before adding that he would have liked to have been more consistent in his kicking. more....

Woodville rugby player off to England

(WOODVILLE) For one Woodville rugby player, moving away from his home and school may be the opportunity of a lifetime. Jacob Webster left for England Aug. 23 to pursue his dream of playing rugby professionally, by playing among the most elite players and coaches for his age group in the world at The Leys School in Cambridge. “It’s honestly one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” he said, not the least of his considerations being that he may have to repeat a year in school back in Canada to go to university once he returns.

Under 16 Men Win Gold!

In Calgary on August 17th, the Ontario Under 16 mens rugby team won their gold medal game against B.C. The Under 16s won their final game in a close contest defeating BC 29-26 with a try in the last minute of the game. This followed a very similar come from behind victory in the BC pool game 29-28, with a last minute try on that occasion too.

Ontario deserved this Championship having come back twice against BC and proving that they are the true 2010 National Festival Champions. Ontario was represented by six players from the Kawartha area (2 from the Lindsay Rugby Club)

June 28, 2010- The Lindsay Post - Club founder 'elated' by road honour.

"The dedication of a road in his name has left Lindsay Rugby Football Club founder Vince Jones "elated." Signs for Vince Jones Rd. - which runs between Post and Settlers roads east of Lindsay - went up last week after council decided Jan. 19 to rename Greenway Rd., which the club calls home. "

March 9, 2010 - U17 MEN'S TEAM SELECTED FOR UK TOURNEY

Canada's U17 men's team has been selected for the Wellington College tournament in the UK over the Easter holidays in late March and early April. An extensive series of camps, a tour to the USA and a domestic tour were used to select the final group of athletes that will participate at the Wellington event, that replaces the Millfield Tournament that Canada had previously attended on an annual basis. Canada will play three games at Wellington College event against Portugal, Italy and Scotland The U17 team will depart for Wales on March 26th to have a one week preparation camp, and then will move on to Wellington College located 50 kms south west of London. more....
