SUCCESS: Rachel's Harvest Feast & Homecoming
The Spearing family extends a heartfelt thanks to all who supported Rachel's Harvest Feast and Homecoming at the Lindsay Rugby Club, Sept. 24th. With your generosity, we raised $ 8,000.00 to help players reach their provincial and national goals, along with further contributions of volunteer labour and materials, adding approximately $20,000.00 in value towards beautifying the field and entrance to the clubhouse. Amazing!

Last but not least, thank you to all who attended and shared great local food, good laughs and danced the night away! We hope to continue beautifying the landscape again next fall, all in Rachel's spirit of giving back. It's been an incredible journey so far and more importantly, a true team effort. So thanks again, especially her rugby family, as Rachel knew a good thing when she adopted all you mates and the clubhouse in which to celebrate.
Love to all,
Ted, Sandy, Melissa and Brandon Spearing
Past Events
Rachel's Harvest Feast and Homecoming
An open service by Rev. Denise Boyd will be followed by a ticketed dinner and dance. The talented hands of local chefs will prepare a scrumptious dinner including locally-sourced, farm-fresh ingredients, a concept Rachel promoted with enthusiasm. Keynote speakers will include Natascha Wesch, Women's Rugby coach at the University of Western Ontario, and Annie Richards, the first recipient of the Rachel Spearing Memorial Award for a student in the newly launched Sustainable Agriculture Program at Sir Sanford Fleming College. Master of Ceremonies will be Vince Jones. Ticket holders will receive a "so ham" bracelet at the door. Proceeds will benefit the LRFC in supporting elite players to reach provincial and national goals.
All of this effort is a result of past financial support Rachel received not only from her family and friends, but also local businesses and the Lindsay Rugby Club. It is our wish to pay it forward to deserving players in their aim to be the best they can be. And the best they can be includes great food! If you cannot make it to this function but still wish to support the cause, donations can be made to the Lindsay Rugby Club through Danielle O'Neill as noted below.
Tickets available until September 9, 2011 and limited to 350 seats, so get your tickets now! All are welcome at the service. Dinner and dance is an age-of-majority event.
We are also celebrating Rachel's memory by planting more trees at the field. Volunteers are welcome to help plant September 17, 2011. Contact Ted and Sandy Spearing for details at 1-705-277-3005.

The Robert Stokes Memorial Golf Tournament - Aug 26,2011
This event is a popular sell-out to 120 plus golfers. The tournament honours our popular, late club captain, who was tragically killed in a traffic collision.
In 2005 LRFC golf tournament was renamed for " Stokesy" . He was a fierce competitor on the field but a consummate gentleman off. His balance of roles as husband, father, science teacher, coach and teammate were coupled with a quick wit and a smile that was his trademark.
The proceeds of the tournament will help support and foster Rob's legacy by directing funds towards young people through the Rob Stokes Biology Award presented to the top graduate in Biological Sciences at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School and the Junior Rugby Program at LRFC.

Bottle Drive - April 30
Just wanted to let everyone know that the "2011 LRFC
Bottle Drive" has wrapped up for another year and was a huge success.
When all was said and done, almost 5000 beer bottles and cans, 300 cooler bottles, and nearly 200 wine and liquor bottles were collected for a GRAND TOTAL OF $801.80 That more than doubles our number from 2010, and with a little more help next year, I am very optimistic we can hit $1000.00.
For those of you that helped this year, I thank you and the club thanks you. This wouldn't have been possible without all of your hard work and great attitudes.
A special thanks to Amanda Pascoe, who did a great job organizing the troops and getting everyone on board. She is a passionate, hard working person, who deserves a lot of credit for this fundraiser being a success.
To all the junior members: Ryan Wilson, Logan Maunder Sanderson, Mac and Byron Smallwood, Mackenzie Green, Curtis Hershey, Matthew Wiltshire, David Sorenson, Wade Coulter, Aidan MacRo, Noah Pascoe, Chris and Carter Hamilton, and Matthew Twohey. Thanks for working hard and helping keep the rugby club strong. You are the future!
Also... Thanks to Glenn Smallwood, Rob Green, Jeff Wiltshire, Rene Sorenson, and Brett Moxley for volunteering your time to drive and especially for the use of your vehicles. Thanks to Ted Twohey as well for the use of your trailer. This would have been impossible without all of you!
I would also like to thank Tammy Buckley, Jennifer Maunder Sanderson, and Mrs. Coulter for assisting all day with driving, collecting and returning bottles, and making sure the jerseys were returned.
and finally... thanks to Peter and Betty Smith for your hard work sorting all the bottles and to my parents Ron and Diane Buckley, who once again volunteered their vehicle and their time to help sort and return all those bottles. Appreciate your efforts and for keeping things so organized. We definitely couldn't have done this without you. Thanks again to everyone involved, be proud of what you accomplished, and hopefully see you all again next year!
Sincerely,
Greg Buckley
